Self-taught Zimbabwean-born painter, now based in Johannesburg. Revisits stories of pre-colonial kings, explorers, and presidents — believing historical understanding informs future imagination.

There was a time when I was very sick — so sick that I thought I was going to die. During that period, my wife left me. But there is a God in heaven who sees everything. My friends also ran away from me; not one of them stood by my side. Still, I continued to pray to God.
